Our Stories of Strength: Survivors on the Path of Healing
“even though we don't know you, we might not ever meet you, but we are all rooting for you.”
A compilation of Survivors’ sharing words of care for those working to heal.
“YOU ARE ENOUGH, YOU ARE STRONG, YOU ARE WORTHY, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.”
Survivors are more than the story of their trauma. These stories are a record of their nonlinear journeys through grief and remembrance, to healing.
WHAT WE HOLD
A Practice of Remembrance and Release
The exhibition “What We Hold: A Practice of Remembrance and Release”, is the culmination of a two-year partnership between artist Sarah C. Rutherford and Willow Domestic Violence Center. This multi-sensory exhibition weaves audio recordings of Survivors’ stories with drawings of Survivors’ hands in an immersive installation. Themes of disenfranchised grief, witnessing, and storytelling are employed as a tool for personal and collective empowerment.
“Stories Of Strength Serves As A Larger Than Life Public Monument To Survivors In Our Community And Their Journey Of Healing.”
Sarah C. Rutherford
A WILLOW IS A STRENGTH THAT COMES FROM WITHIN AND RADIATES OUT.
Through deepening this partnership with Willow, and with a two-year employment grant from Creative Rebuild New York, Sarah has been able to expand the initial public mural into this multi-year, multimedia project of empowerment, advocacy, education, empowerment, and healing. She is grateful for their continued support.
